- Strengthen health workers at the Neonatal Unit in the delivery of specialised neonatal care through on-the-job training.
- Support the improvement of neonatal referral pathways by coaching health workers and community health workers in new-born care.
- Train trainers and mentors in delivering Early Essential New-born Care (EENC) training to HCs in Moroto and Napak.
- Consult HCs, Matany School of Nursing and CBOs on integrating the delivery of EENC in their strategies.
- Support health workers in data collection, reporting and analysing
- Implement community support systems, such as antenatal or emergency plans.
- Provide on-the-job training to nurses, midwives, medical officers and interns in the NICU and surrounding units on the management of new-born health, including on fluid and electrolyte management, dangers signs, nedcap.
- Strengthen skills of medical officers and interns in the management of new-born care, with the introduction of accompanied nurse-doctor ward rounds and feedback to caregiver.
- Increase skills amongst health workers in the NICU in obtaining medical history, patient rapports and hand-over.
- Strengthen health workers skills in Kangaroo Mother Care, newborn resuscitation and other essential emergency newborn care interventions through roll-out of EENC training.
- Provide advice to hospital management on policy matters on standards of care, improvement programmes and clinical facilitation of student health workers.
- Provide guest lectures when needed and where possible in School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Compile and share activity and monthly reports with the supervisor (s)
