The thematic advisor will have a specific focus on strengthening the integration of climate change and environment perspectives in Save the Children Sweden (SCS) programmes.The thematic advisor is responsible for the overall thematic development, for building knowledge, develop methodology and support quality in country and regional programmes. First priority is to develop SCS’s approach in this area and support implementation in programmes. The advisor will also support the development of child rights based programming in the context of climate change, including engaging with potential donors. The advisor will work in close cooperation with colleagues in the Thematic Section of the International Program at Save the Children Sweden (SCS). The advisor will represent SCS in relevant international working groups and coordination mechanisms, as well as work for integration of climate/environment perspectives or components in other prioritized thematic areas, such as child protection, education and/or child rights governance.
The role also includes travel in Europe and globally.
You will be part of the Section for Thematic Support, Unit for Cross-Cutting Themes, within the International Department.
In order to be successful in this role you will bring
- University degree within a relevant field (or equivalent knowledge acquired through other means)
- Not less than 5 years of documented experience of rights based development work in an international context
- Excellent conceptual and theoretical understanding of climate change and environment in rights based development programmes, the role of civil society in development work, human rights and/or children’s rights.
- Experience from work with thematic development and knowledge development
- Experience from providing capacity building and creating learning opportunities
- Experience from project/program planning and budgeting, monitoring and evaluation (MEAL) and the most commonly used tools in development cooperation
- Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Additional language; French, Spanish and Arabic is an asset
Desirable qualifications are:
- Experience from integration of gender perspectives
- Experience from working with Save the Children or a similar international NGO
