Lebanon: Thematic Advisor Humanitarian Child Protection - Middle East

As a Thematic Advisor you assure the programme quality of SCS projects in Middle East, ie Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iraq. The focus of the projects is strengthening of child protection systems, psychosocial support, CAAFAG (Children associated with armed forces and armed groups), sexual and gender based violence, building capacities of CSOs and strengthening the implementation gender policies in Save the Children International. The post holder is expected to build and strengthen the knowledge, competence and capacity of relevant functions of the SCI offices and partners on thematic and programmatic areas. Contribute to the global thematic and policy development.

The key responisibilities for the postion are:

  • Provide technical assistance and thematic guidance to country offices to support the implementation of SCS’ humanitarian projects

  • Oversee programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of programme activities

  • Support the analysis, integration and utilization of findings and lessons learnt to realize impact for the programmes

  • Gather lessons learnt from SCS supported programs, including ensuring documentation and dissemination of new knowledge

  • Build competence on thematic and humanitarian policies, strategies, methods and tools

  • Ensure synergies and shared learning of thematic program work between countries and from local to international level

  • Explore and support efforts to fundraise to expand the programmes based on evidence

  • Take part in any other priority task indicated from the line manager

  • Act on behalf of SCS in its relation to RO/CO

Desirable qualifications are:

  • University education within the relevant thematic fields, or the equivalent. Post graduate education in relevant fields is considered a merit

  • At least 5-7 years of qualified experience working with rights-based approaches and relevant thematic area in humanitarian contexts

  • At least 5 years experience of planning and implementing programmes in humanitarian contexts.

  • Field experience is a requirement

  • Excellent understanding of thematic issues related to child rights and human rights

  • Previous experience of emergency response work is a requirement

  • Arabic speaking
