About VSO
VSO is the world's leading development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty. We are unique in the way we bring people together to share their skills and experience, generate insights and ideas and, most of all, take action against poverty and exclusion. It's a highly effective approach that works, and today is helping millions of people in some of the world's poorest communities lift themselves out of poverty.
Role overview
International Citizen Service (ICS) is an innovative youth programme led by VSO and funded by UK Government. The programme supports 18-25 year olds from the UK to work alongside in-country volunteers on projects aimed at improving the lives of some of the world's poorest people.
The Media officer will focus on engaging UK press and journalists across local, regional and national media in the UK and at times internationally to build the brand and reputation of ICS and help drive volunteer recruitment. The post holder will plan, implement and evaluate media campaigns and will also play a key role in reputation and crisis communications.
The successful candidate will work across ICS and its partners, including the UK Government, supporting information-sharing and maximising impact, and will be required to work both confidently and collaboratively. The candidate will also support our volunteers to help them become active advocates for ICS.
